If you’re intrigued by Hollywood’s secrets, and wonder what really goes on behind closed doors in that glamorous city of wealth and beauty, then the upcoming The Hollywood Mom’s Mystery (Hallmark Channel, Sunday, August 8 at 9 EST) is for you. Produced for television by Hollywood Screenwriter Lindsay Maracotta, and based upon her original novel, Hollywood Mom’s stars Justine Bateman (Lucy), best known for her starring role as Mallory Keaton on the 80’s smash “Family Ties”, the over-cooked yet still delicious George Hamilton (Woody), and the witty Angie Everhart (Julia).

"When I first came to Hollywood, I found myself among people who seemed almost like an alien species” says Maracotta. “They were the type who would stab themselves in the back if it would help them get ahead. I often didn't know whether to be shocked or to just simply laugh out loud. What better way than a juicy and funny murder mystery to let the craziness of these famous and wanna-be famous characters reveal itself?"

Clearly projecting an insider’s view of the people who both live and play-and-die-in Hollywood, the film is a tour-de-force combining dark mystery with droll humor. But perhaps the best inside joke of all is casting George Hamilton and Angie Everhart as husband and wife. “When they offered me the role and told me George would be my husband,” Everhart recalls, “the first thing I said was, ‘It sounds like fun. I don’t have to kiss him, do I?’ Because he’s my ex-father-in-law!” As it turned out, Everhart and Hamilton’s son Ashley were married for about four months in 1996 and ’97.

Everyone has read about Hollywood’s revolving door, and the career ups & downs in the movie business. In this case, Lucy Freers (Justine Bateman), her husband Kit (Andrew McCarthy) and their daughter Chloe (Holliston Coleman) have to sell their beautiful house in the Hollywood Hills. Lucy is a children’s book illustrator; Kit is a well-known movie producer. Unfortunately, what he’s best known for are his last two box office bombs. That’s why the Freers family, down and out in paradise, must move out of their home – a gorgeous place with a spectacular swimming pool in back. This is the very pool where Lucy discovers her neighbor, Julia Prentice (Angie Everhart), floating dead. Quickly, Lucy’s husband Kit becomes a suspect, and is taken into police headquarters for more questioning. Lucy’s home, meanwhile, has suddenly attracted tabloid photographers and morbid onlookers. The Freers family is now the talk of the town, but for all the wrong reasons.
