![]() | Albuquerque, New Mexico was the spiritual setting for the Second Annual Native American Music Award Show. One of the fastest growing segments of music in the country, the sold out show highlighted modern day Native Americans playing everything from traditional flutes and drums to rock, rap, reggae and good ol' twangin country music. Celebrity presenters included the glamourous Rita Coolidge and her sister Priscilla, actor Rodney Grant (Dances With Wolves), Randy Castillo of Motley Crue and John Densmore of The Doors. The show was hosted by actor Branscombe Richmond (Renegade). Nashville resident Bill Miller was the big winner, besting even Robbie Robertson for Artist of the Year, Best Song, Male Artist and Album of the Year. Hank Williams Sr. -- who was half Cherokee -- was inducted into the Hall of Fame with a hard core cowpunk tribute performance from his grandson Hank III. More country pop was heard from The Lynns, twin daughters of coal miner's daughter Loretta. |
