In 1999, when Paris was 19 and sister Nicky was 15, the two teen bombshells burst into the limelight, lighting up New York’s social scene with their beauty, their antics and their wild, wild ways. They were such a pair that Paris was once quoted as saying, "Which one am I, Paris or Nicky? I can never keep that straight." Paris, known to tabloids the world over as "Paris the Heiress," graced party after party, getting lots of bad press for her antics. For example, in one reported incident, Paris grabbed headlines by shoving ahead of others in a washroom line, and then, when upbraided for her rudeness, quipped that she only wanted to look at herself in the mirror.
At this year’s Lord of the Rings pre-Oscars party, Paris embarrassed herself when she accidently stumbled into a Japanese pool covered in rose blossoms. She was quoted as saying, "Oh, my new Vuitton shoes!" Well, at least they're clean now. God, I didn't see the pool! Why is there a pool there? At least I didn't go into the big pool." Less than a minute later Paris' phone rang. "Nicky, Guess what? I just fell into a little pond! It's soooo embarrassing." Bemused host New Line Cinema’s chief Bob Shaye was even more baffled by Hilton's presence, saying, "She wasn't even invited."
In another infamous incident, Paris made news by baring her breasts for porn legend Ron Jeremy - in return for a glimpse at his infamously large manhood. Cheeky Hilton and actress friend Bijou Phillips approached the X- rated film star at a Los Angeles party and asked to see his notoriously large penis. And 51-year-old Jeremy agreed to oblige, but only if they flashed their chests. A source says, "Ron is only in porn for one reason and it's certainly not his looks. The girls really wanted to see it. So they all went off to the toilets and five minutes later Bijou came out saying, 'It's bigger than my boyfriend's!'"
She has also danced on top of bar banquettes, gone topless for attention, and paraded around in designer T-shirts with slogans like, "Got Blow? She even deigned to crash the "Rock Royalty" party of the year-Clive Davis' pre-Grammy bash, in spite of the fact that he refused to invite her, or even return her calls. And to top it all off, She's number one...on Mr. Blackwell's Annual Worst Dressed Women List. The Hollywood fashion guru said "Grab the blinders, here comes Paris! From cyber disgrace to red-carpet chills--she's the vapid Venus of Beverly Hills!"
Yet Paris maintains that the bad press "sucks" and that "people are mean." “We’re nice girls,” she says, “but we’ve been at parties where you just see a group of people whispering and stuff. It’s not nice. People love to hate us. But when you know us, you love us.”
When Paris turned 21, she threw herself a frenzied 5 birthday parties in 4 different countries, including New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris and Tokyo. But this year, sadly for lots of people, there was no big-crazy-cross-continental party like in previous years. Instead, she celebrated in quiet style with an afternoon of shopping and lunch at LA's Ivy restaurant with her mom, sister Nicky and Nicole Ritchie. But don’t think for a second that Paris has mellowed- later that night she had a party at the Nacional club in Hollywood with a guestlist that included Mark Wahlberg, Mark McGrath, Tara Reid, Jack Osbourne, Matthew Perry and of course, friends like Nicole, Nicky and Nick Carter, dubbed the "Nicks".
